What does Gutter check so Amazon KDP accepts my book?
It validates the PDF it gives you against KDP's requirements: a valid trim size, a page count between 24 and 828, the minimum inside margin for your page count, the resolution of every image (300 ppi) and embedded fonts. You see the warnings before you publish, not after.
If KDP rejects the file because of the typesetting we generated, we'll reprocess it at no cost.
02
Can I put text on my book's spine?
KDP only allows spine text on books with 79 pages or more. Gutter calculates the spine width from your page count and paper type, and warns you if there's text on a book that doesn't reach that minimum.
03
What kind of ePub does Gutter create, and does it work on Kindle?
It creates an ePub from the same layout as the PDF: parts and chapters in separate files, a navigable table of contents, footnotes turned into endnotes with links back and forth, normalized images, and the correct cover and metadata. It's checked word by word against your manuscript and validated with EPUBCheck, the industry-standard tool.
It works on Kindle and all other stores: Apple Books, Kobo, Google Play, Nook and more. It's included in the price, at no extra cost.
!KEEP IN MINDThe ePub is reflowable: drop caps and running headers aren't applied, because each reader decides how the text looks.

What do I do with my files after I download them?
Upload the interior PDF to Amazon KDP in your paperback edition's dashboard, and the ePub to your Kindle edition. After you pay, the “Your book is ready” email includes five tips for this step, with your PDF's actual trim size and page count.
!KEEP IN MINDGutter doesn't publish on Amazon for you.
