Does it work for a thesis, dissertation and capstone?
Yes. Thesis mode formats theses, dissertations, capstone projects and other long academic work: title page, front matter, table of contents, chapters, footnotes, tables, figures, references and appendices.
What formatting does it use by default?
A Times New Roman equivalent (Tinos) at 12 pt, 1.5 line spacing as in Word, 2.5 cm margins with 3 cm on the binding side, a first-line indent of 1.27 cm, footnotes at 10 pt, and front matter numbered in roman numerals with the body starting at page 1. You can change any of it by typing in the chat, for example “double spacing”.
What if my university has its own guidelines?
Upload the PDF of your university's thesis guidelines or paste its link. Gutter reads the formatting rules, shows them in a panel so you can review or edit them, and applies them when it formats your thesis.
Can it format my reference list in APA 7?
Yes, if you turn it on in the norms panel. An AI sorts each entry into fields (authors, year, title, journal) copying them literally, and a fixed formatter writes the APA 7 reference. It only touches the reference section, never your in-text citations, and it never invents data: if a year is missing, the entry is flagged for you to complete. Gutter also checks your in-text citations against the list and tells you which citations have no reference and which references are never cited.
Does it respect landscape pages and a title page with my logo?
Yes to both. If your Word file already has landscape sections, for example for a wide table, they stay landscape in the PDF. The title page takes your university, department, degree, title, author and supervisor, can include your university's logo, and comes in three layouts.
